Howard Matthew is an Artist, Film Maker and Educator with 20 years experience creating work with diverse communities.
Between 1997-2011 Matthew was based in London where he worked across a broad spectrum of areas; his solo practice was supported through numerous fellowships commissions and grants in addition to being purchased in private collections.
As educator he worked with several museums and galleries including The National Portrait Gallery, Serpentine Gallery and notably on Tate Modern’s global turbinegeneration program where he worked in learning settings across UK, Europe and Russia. Between 2004-2011 he worked for Creative Partnerships, the UK government’s flagship arts in education program as artist, project manager and researcher. From 2006-2010 Matthew also worked on the 2012 Olympics with architectural practice, Fundamental Architectural Inclusion planning and delivering creative consultation with communities across East London.
In 2011 he relocated to Sydney, Australia to take up post as co-Artistic Director/CEO with Shopfront Youth Arts. From 2015 he has worked in a freelance capacity across a number of organisations including Sydney Opera House, Sydney Living Museums, Sydney University in addition to maintaining two artist in residence programs supported by Arts NSW Fresh AIR initiative 2014-2016.
